Duration: 2-6 hours in the clinic
Requirement: Mastery of unassisted FMX (5 or fewer errors) on a dental manikin

In California, Dental Assistants need the California Radiation Safety (X-Ray) certificate to perform x-rays in dental offices. Additionally, applicants for Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) licensure must have completed an approved radiation safety course.

Orange County Dental Institute is a Dental Board approved provider offering a comprehensive Radiation Safety certification course that leads to the issuance of an X-ray certificate.

Course Content:
- Lecture and clinical application of x-ray safety, bisecting and parallel techniques, film exposure, processing, and mounting
- Training in digital x-ray (Dexis) technology
- Evaluation of digital and non-digital dental x-rays using online and in-class lectures, videos, and hands-on training
- Notify the California Dental Board upon successful completion

Prerequisite: Trained in Dental Intra-oral Radiography

Course Requirements:
- Provide 4 clinical patients for FMX imaging
- Conduct FMX on 3 patients at current facility and 1 patient during class
- Wear scrubs, tie hair back, and closed-toe footwear
- Must have the 8-hour Infection Control certificate
- Minimum 6 months of dental assisting experience in the U.S.
- Proof of experience on office letterhead signed and dated by the dentist

Patient Criteria:
- Age 18 or older
- Must have at least 26 natural teeth with no more than 6 missing
- No history of cardiovascular or kidney issues
- Not pregnant
- Not wearing orthodontic appliances
- Complete required forms before FMX

Verification and Registration:
- Submit photocopies of required documents with the registration form
- Complete registration packet and payment 48 hours before the class
- Incomplete prerequisites will lead to rescheduling
